Purport

When He was eloping with Rukmini devi, rukman chased behind in vain;
only to be tied to the chariot by the mighty One, whose mountain;
is mAlirunjchOlai, where falling petals & broken twigs of kondrai tree
resembled giving away gold coins & rings to others on an offering spree!

Wicked kamsA, kALiyA, kuvalayApIdA,twin trees & the bull perished;
while the gem hued grew up in Gokul & chose the Hill He cherished;
The Hill that resembled a snake raising its head, with venom spill,
licking the cool moon with its tongue, is thirumAlirunjchOlai Hill!

Purport

Trapping and killing arrogant narakan who thought he had no death at all;
freeing virgins and taking them along, the ocean hued Lord stood tall
in the Hill where the trees lined up like golden garlands around;
is the mAlirunjchOlai mound with flowery splendor abound!

Purport

The prison where Ushai, mahAbali's son bhAnA's daughter, was kept;
perished with the guards at the hands of bull like lad who's so adept!
His hill, where the cowherd men and women folks sing* and dance
praising Him as Govinda, is the mAlirunjchOlai of great expanse!

Though SisupAlA accused Krishna in words so insulting;
when the former lay dying, He showed His form so exulting;
He, who decorates the Hill, that's protective and chill,
beautiful, victorious, rich & tall is thirumAlirunjchOlai hill!

Purport

Keeping in mind the struggle that the pAndavA's draupaThi underwent;
He made duryoThanAs' wives suffer the same torment;
The Lord's primeval Hill, with orchards & water streams abound;
where the bees sing tunes and drink honey, is the mAlirunjchOlai mound.

Purport

For the sake of her*, whose ears adorned with golden rings;
lovely armed rAmA rained arrows to fell demons; He clings
to the lovely Hill mAlirunjchOlai, where people come in teams
to take bath in the clear waters, that swells from golden streams!

Firing arrows to kill rAvaNA who spoke ill;
the bow that made his unjust mouth still;
rAmA chose thirumAlirunjchOlai to reside
where Indra with the Sun, moon & celestials faithfully abide.

Purport

Rescuing earth with His tusk; having it in palms, measuring it with His feet;
gulping it during great deluge, spitting it later; playful Lord chose His seat
where the cool noopura ganga rushes down the mAlirunjchOlai Hill;
with the choicest offerings brought to the Lord for His thrill!

He, who has thousand shoulders and shining crowns, reclines;
over the thousand headed snake, now rules the Hill & shines!
where rivers, lakes and orchards in thousands abound;
is the mAlirunjchOlai hill with great beauty surround!

Purport

Like a mountain taking posession of the mAlirunjchOlai mountain;
He's 8 sylabled mantra; nectar of 4 vedic oceans;a blissful fountain!
essence of vedanta; of the form of light; thus periAzhwAr writes
these pAsurams in praise of Him, taking us to the divine heights!
